  • The Advocate for Injured Workers – This is an office within the Workers’ Compensation board set-up to help injured workers with complaints about the system and provide information about your rights. The contact phone number is 1-800-580-6665.
  • Social Security Administrationwww.ssa.gov This is the official website for the Social Security Administration. There is a lot of information here about Social Security and Medicare benefits.  You can file for benefits online, obtain forms and access official Social Security Administration publications on all aspects of Social Security benefits, including disability benefits.

You can find out information about proposed and recently passed laws and how to contact your local assembly person. You should be active and contact your assembly person whenever you have a concern about Workers’ Compensation or any other issue handled by the New York State government.

  • Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID)www.vesid.nysed.gov This is a branch of the New York State Department of Education that assists people with disabilities with a wide range of services. They can be very helpful with job retraining and placement after an injury. If you are disabled, but able to do some work, contact VESID.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration – OSHA – www.osha.gov OSHA is a branch of the U.S. Department of Labor that is responsible for monitoring and regulating workplace safety issues nationwide. If you believe there is a safety issue in your workplace, contact OSHA to see if there has been a violation of any laws and what rights you may have.
  • New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health – NYCOSH  –www.nycosh.org NYCOSH is a non-profit group composed of labor unions and individuals that works on workplace safety issues. It operates primarily in downstate New York, but their website has a lot of useful information and tips on workplace safety.

You will find information about all kinds of insurance, government insurance programs (including Healthy NY, Family Health Plus, and Child Health Plus) and information about how to file a complaint about an insurance company or administrator, including for Workers’ Compensation.
